ARIZONA BOARD OF REGENTS' COMMITTEE ON FREE EXPRESSION
The Arizona Board of Regents strongly believes that free speech is critical to the mission and function of a healthy university system. Board and university policies and practices reflect and promote constitutional protections for free speech and expression. The Arizona Board of Regents' Committee on Free Expression was established pursuant to state statute to further promote freedom of expression on Arizona’s public university campuses.
Regents' Cup
Regents' Cup is a tri-university speech and debate competition presented by the Arizona Board of Regents. Student orators attending Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University or the University of Arizona represent their university at this annual event in Oxford debate and storytelling categories. The Regents' Cup honors participants for articulating different points of view in an environment where competitors remain civil and respectful.
FIRE RATINGS
The board and Arizona’s public universities protect and ensure intellectual freedom and free expression at its institutions. All three of Arizona’s public universities maintain the highest green light rating from the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE), recognizing the commitment of the board and the universities to free speech. Arizona is the only public university system in the country to have all of its universities achieve this standard.
