2024 Regents’ Cup celebrates free speech, civil discourse in tri-university debate and storytelling tournament

WHAT: The 2024 Regents’ Cup is a tri-university speech and debate competition presented by the Arizona Board of Regents that brings students together to celebrate free speech and civil discourse. Participating student teams from Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University and the University of Arizona compete in Oxford debate and storytelling categories in this annual event that honors participants for articulating different points of view in an environment where competitors remain civil and respectful.

Students compete for scholarships to support their education. First place winners earn $15,000, second place $12,000 and third place $5,000. Students spend several months preparing for the event and earn course credit at their university for their work.

Arizona’s public universities are exemplars in free speech and are recognized by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression with the highest free speech rating.
