Letter to Governor Ducey: Arizona business, community leaders support ABOR’s New Economy Initiative

In a letter to Governor Ducey, nearly 30 statewide business and community leaders have expressed their strong support for the New Economy Initiative, the Arizona Board of Regents’ roadmap for increasing educational attainment and driving workforce and economic development.

“This plan will provide the funds necessary to expand Arizona’s workforce capacity; spur research and development, with an emphasis on bringing emerging technologies to market; and ensure our universities remain engines of economic expansion and opportunity,” the letter states. “NEI builds on the existing program strengths at each institution, with an emphasis on high-growth sectors. That includes engineering and the sciences at ASU; health care and teaching at NAU; and agriculture, health sciences and veterinary medicine at UArizona.”

In the letter, leaders from the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, Greater Phoenix Economic Council, Greater Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce, Southern Arizona Leadership Council and more asked Gov. Ducey to consider supporting the Initiative, which will benefit employers and Arizonans statewide.

“The board and universities are tremendously appreciative of the support of Arizona’s business and community leaders and their advocacy for advancing the competitive growth of the state through the New Economy Initiative,” said ABOR Chair Lyndel Manson. “I look forward to our continued work together with Gov. Ducey to increase educational attainment, advance Arizona’s values and ensure a vibrant economy for the future.”
