Robert J. Herbold
Gov. Doug Ducey appointed Regent Robert J. Herbold to the Arizona Board of Regents on July 19, 2021. He is secretary of the board and a member of the Strategic Initiatives and Planning Committee, and Audit and Risk Management Committee.
Regent Herbold brings to the board a dedication to higher education and experience in business, finance and strategic operations. He is the managing director of The Herbold Group, LLC, an operations and strategy consulting business. He is also president of The Herbold Foundation, which provides scholarships to master's and doctoral students in engineering and computer science at several universities.
Regent Herbold previously was the executive vice president and chief operating officer of Microsoft Corporation and prior to that he was senior vice president of Procter & Gamble. He has endowed two chairs in engineering at Case Western Reserve University as well as a chair in the business school at the University of Washington.
He serves on the Board of Trustees of the Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. In the past he has served on several corporate boards of directors of companies such as Agilent Technologies, Neptune Orient Shipping Lines and Weyerhaeuser. Regent Herbold earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Cincinnati, and a master’s degree in mathematics and doctoral degree in engineering/computer science from Case Western Reserve University.
